My favorite time of the year; End of Summer beginning of Fall and time again for the Abundance NC’s Annual Pepper Festival. One of my favorites!!
Abundance North Carolina presents The Ninth Annual Amazing Pepper Festival, Sunday, October 2, 2016! PepperFest is a celebration of sustainable agriculture, farmers, and the creativity of the Piedmont’s chefs, brewers and artisans.
And what a celebration it is. The Pepper Festival has morphed over the years and has easily become one of the most fun food festivals in the Triangle.
Here’s what’s hot and cooking this year:
50 North Carolina chefs and brewers face off with one-of-a-kind recipes, featuring the locally grown NC pepper. From pepper chocolate to pepper vodka, you’ll see a dizzying array of dishes from culinary stars The Fearrington Granary, TOPO, Harvest 18, Centro, Saint Jacques and Tribeca Tavern. The line-up this year is looking mighty tasty.
Enjoy local libations from Fullsteam, Carolina Brewery, Fortnight, Steel String, Four Saints, Crude Bitters, Mystic, TOPO Distillery and more.
You definitely don’t want to miss the coronation of this year’s PepperFest King & Queen!
Inaugural Spicy Kid Chef Competition: We’re pairing the area’s top chefs with aspiring kid chefs to cook up their zestiest dishes! Mentors include Jay Pierce, Teddy Klopf, Teddy Diggs, Jason Smith, Colin Bedford and Angelina Koulizakis-Battiste.
The festival will also feature an all-new “Hot Glam” Fashion Show (2-3 p.m.), bluegrass and rock bands and host of family activities! Best of all, the proceeds benefit Abundance NC, a nonprofit committed to sustainable fuels and local agriculture. Love our local farmers!
Ticket prices are $20-$30 in advance or $35 at the door. This gets you “samples of all sorts of gourmet, local food into which some of the best chefs of the central Piedmont have incorporated all types of locally grown peppers…some sweet, some hot, some smoky.” A cash bar will be available for local beer and wine and non-alcoholic beverages.
Chef’s get creative. Look for sweet and savory dishes, salsas, chili and more. You also get the opportunity to sample various varieties of peppers and learn more about their flavor profiles and uses.
This event is fun for the whole family with lots of kids activities to keep everyone happy. Think “Pepper-Palooza“!
