As part of the Great American Bake Sale, the Food Blogger Bake Sale will support Share our Strength’s efforts to end childhood hunger in America.
“All of the money raised will be granted to North Carolina non-profits that fight against childhood hunger. Past recipients of Share Our Strength grants include the Interfaith Food Shuttle in Raleigh and the Second Harvest Food Bank in Metrolina”. Thanks Matt for finding this information out.
Baked goods will be offered from many of your favorite Triangle food bloggers. Each participant will bake a savory or sweet dish that will be for sale to the public from 10am-12pm on May 14, 2011. Community members can purchase tickets and then exchange those tickets for baked goods. One ticket is $3 or four tickets for $10, with each ticket good for one baked item. A cookbook raffle will also be available with great give-aways from Debbie Moose and Nancie McDermott.
Some of the participating blogs include: Durhamfoodie, Green Eats Blog, The Food Life, Magie’s Noms, Bramasole, Demandy, Nancie McDermott, Nutella is Evil, NestMeg, Moose Musings, The Masala Wala, Como Water, Smashed Goods, The Pie Daily and The World on a Table.
Look for goodies like, blue cheese bacon scones, raspberry buttermilk cake, chocolate coconut crispies, strawberry honey crescent rolls and chocolate chip cookies, to name a few.
I still haven’t decided what I’m going to make. I had originally planned on cranberry pistachio biscotti, but since then have perused my many cookbooks and am at a loss. Biscotti, pie, cookies? Sweet or savory? Lord knows! Whatever I decide, I’ll be sure to post the recipe with pictures.
Plan to enjoy a wonderful day. Pick up some fresh local goodies from the Durham Farmer’s Market, head over to the bake sale to support a great cause, then enjoy a leisurely walk down to Fullsteam or the newly opened Geer Street Garden for a refreshing bevy.
