Celebrating Mother’s Day with Brunch

Trying to  decide on a restaurant for Mother’s Day brunch is no easy task. I for one have several top picks for where I’d like to spend a lazy hour or two, feasting on delectable menu options and sipping bloody mary’s and mimosas with friends or family.

For this Mother’s Day brunch, my mum and I are headed to Market Restaurant in Raleigh. Not only because Chad is an excellent Chef using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, but because this year Market Restaurant has partnered with Advocates for Health in Action (AHA) to host the “Farm it Forward” benefit brunch.

Chef Chad in the news: Market named finalist for Best Dish in NC, Chef Chad McIntyre wins “Local Heroes” award

The Farm it Forward program, “is a new partnership among AHA and local Wake County farmers. Farm It Forward is a community supported agriculture (CSA) program for Wake County citizens who are working to improve their nutrition due to health concerns and who could use extra help financially to make these changes. Through Farm It Forward, they can receive free shares of healthy, local produce for 10 weeks from local farmers” (From the AHA website).

The Sunday May 8th brunch will run from 10am-3pm,  with live music beginning at noon. The menu will feature a “Farm It Forward Frittata and Strawberry Mint Julep, made with all local ingredients donated by local farms Ben’s Produce and New Grass Gardens. All proceeds from the frittata and the drink will be donated to support Farm It Forward shares for community members in need. Ben’s Produce will also sell flowers and bedding plants at Market on May 8 to raise funds for the program.”

In addition to the special Frittata and Strawberry Mint Julep, Market will be offering the menu listed below ( Subject to change based on quantity and availability):

 French Quarter Style Beignets $7

  1. This mum is looking forward to brunching out with her daughter, the Durham Foodie. Durham Foodie is a great chef but even chefs like to eat out once in a while!

  2. All true, but I believe in supporting the local food movement and think Farm it Forward is well worth a morning out of the kitchen, not to mention the Market menu sounds divine.

  3. For curiosity sake, why not make Mother’s Day Brunch? You said your favorite place is in the kitchen and it would undoubtedly cost less?
