SEEDS 3rd Annual Pie Social and Skill Share
Sunday, April 10th, 2-6pm
706 Gilbert St, Durham NC
If you have never visited the SEEDS garden, this is the perfect event to do so. I attended the Pie Social for the first time last year with a couple of friends and I will, without a doubt, be back this year and every year.
The Pie Social is a great opportunity to support the youth of the Durham Inner-City Gardeners program, eat delicious local pie (sweet and savory), listen to music, take a tour of the garden.
The auction is a skill share auction, where instead of bidding on “things,” you get to bid to learn fun and interesting skills from fellow community members. Some options include how to spin fire (cool!), brew beer (cooler!) and fly a plane (coolest!)
All proceeds benefit the Durham Inner-city Gardeners (DIG) program at SEEDS. DIG is a youth-driven, urban farming leadership development program that empowers young people by teaching organic gardening and healthy life skills while providing them with meaningful employment and job skills.
And last but not least, lets talk PIE!!!!
Pies are being generously donated by local Triangle restaurants and bakers including Toast, Watts Grocery, Scratch Bakery, Foster’s, Four Square, Dos Perros, Pie Pushers, Durham Catering, The Farmer’s Daughter, Daisy Cakes, Dame’s Chicken and Waffles, Parker and Otis, Papa Mojo’s Roadhouse, Piedmont and more.
Suggested donation of $10 comes with up to 4 slices of pie, though it’s hard to stop there. I think last year I wolfed down twice that, and had I had room left, I probably would have pigged out on thirds.
