Everyone has a neighborhood pub where smiling faces greet you when you walk through the door. I happen to love the West 94th St Pub, whose slogan appropriately states “where everyone knows your face.”
Owned by Sarah and her daughter Kerrie, the Pub has served up food and drinks to SW Durham’s crowd of loyal followers for 16 years. The Pub keeps their patrons happy with several great daily specials, including their new $6 lunch menu. Wednesday is Pub Trivia Night and I think the only Trivia venue in SW Durham. Friends of mine recently moved to the area and have gone every week, they love it! Me personally, I SUCK at trivia!
Two upcoming events made this blog post a must.
First is the Pub’s Chili Cook-off this coming Sunday February 13th from 4pm-7pm. If you haven’t already entered, you still have time, the deadline is TODAY. Participants can compete in one of 3 categories; meat, vegetable or chicken. Chili must be prepared at home and submitted by 4:00pm on Sunday February 13th for judging. The dish must feed at least 6 people.
I definitely signed up the minute I heard about it, but am still on the fence deciding between a meat or vegetarian chili. Are you going to join the fun? If interested in participating, contact Kerrie at KBPAW_21@MSN.COM or Call 919-403-0025.
Bowls of chili will be sold after judging, with all the money going towards the Pub’s $20,000 goal for their St. Baldrick’s Fundraising Event.
Which brings me to the Pub’s next winner of an event.
On Saturday March 26th the West 94th St Pub is hosting their 2nd annual St. Baldrick’s Fundraiser Event from 12-6pm. The Pub is the ONLY officially registered VENUE IN DURHAM hosting a St. Baldricks event.
The St. Baldricks Foundation Currently funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation coordinates its signature worldwide head-shaving events where volunteers get bald to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer and raise money to support life-saving childhood cancer research. St. Baldrick’s events are the fastest growing volunteer-driven fundraising opportunity benefitting pediatric cancer research.
You can join the West 94th St Pub’s fight by becoming a participant on their official St. Baldrick’s website page. They are looking for brave individuals and teams to consider being a “shavee” to help make this event a success. Each “shavee” collects donations from their friends, family and area businesses to support the cause.
YOU DON”T HAVE TO BE A “SHAVEE”
If you want to take part, but don’t want to shave your lovely locks, you can always help one of the other shavee’s or volunteers by donating under their personal name or team name. My St. Baldrick’s volunteer page is here if you would like to give to my fundraising efforts. =)
There are also several great community sponsorship packages available for local businesses to take part in. All sponsors receive recognition for their contribution. Please email me directly if interested in learning more about how your business can help through sponsorship.
So there you have it, two great events at my local Pub. Hope you come out to either one, both will be great fun!
